Project logistics specialist deugro has completed the transport of nearly 110 kilometers of 132 kV CTS submarine power cables for the Farasan–Madayah Submarine Cable Project, moving cargo from the Port of Changshu, China, to the Port of Jazan, Saudi Arabia.

The operation was managed by deugro China acting as project control tower, alongside deugro Saudi Arabia, deugro Chartering, and engineering specialists from dteq Transport Engineering Solutions (dteq).

Cargo Specifications and Engineering Interventions

The transport involved heavy-lift, high-density subsea power cables and specialized spooling equipment:

  • Payload Parameters: Transmited over 5,180 metric tons of cable and a total payload exceeding 5,380 metric tons, including a 25 x 25 x 9.6-meter cable carousel mounted on a chartered deck carrier.
  • Longitudinal Bending Recalculations: dteq re-engineered the barge design institute’s original still-water bending moment and shear force parameters, resolving structural weight-distribution constraints to meet marine transport safety criteria.
  • Structural Load Distribution: Utilized steel shims under support zones to transfer concentrated loads to primary deck girders, alongside auxiliary contact plates on A-type stoppers to mitigate localized stress on the carousel.
  • Motion Restraint Optimization: Re-calculated sea-fastening and lashing configurations to offset reduced friction coefficients resulting from steel-to-steel shim contact, ensuring stability against sliding and overturning during ocean transit.

Operational Execution and Project Context

Following a 15-day carousel installation supervised by dteq and deugro, cables were spooled continuously onto the vessel over a 10-day period.

Deugro Saudi Arabia coordinated final receiving operations at the Port of Jazan, delivering the cable cargo on schedule to support ongoing cable-laying and energy infrastructure development in the Red Sea region.
