Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced its official participation in Breakbulk Europe 2026, the global maritime sector’s premier gathering for project cargo, heavy-lift, and breakbulk logistics. Scheduled to take place from 16 to 18 June 2026 at the Rotterdam Ahoy convention center (Hall 2, Booth 2A20-B21 & 2A21), the global ocean carrier will showcase its specialized engineering capabilities, digital supply chain tracking integrations, and large-scale industrial transit operations.

Leveraging more than five decades of experience moving out-of-gauge (OOG) and oversized industrial machinery, MSC’s dedicated project cargo division provides customized, multi-modal transport frameworks for specialized engineering and infrastructure projects across global trade lanes.

Case Study Showcase: Moving Cairo Metro Railcars via Antwerp

At this year’s exhibition, MSC will present an inside look at a massive, multi-year transport initiative managed out of the Port of Antwerp in Belgium. The ongoing operation involves the complex loading and ocean transit of a full mass-transit trainset comprising nine distinct railcars. Each individual railcar weighs up to 40 tonnes and measures 22 meters in length.

The vehicles were secured and shipped to the Port of Alexandria in Egypt as part of a comprehensive infrastructure contract requiring the movement of 495 total railcars between 2025 and 2028. Upon final delivery and assembly in Egypt, these trainsets will be integrated into Cairo’s expanding metropolitan transit grid, which supports the daily commute of approximately 2.5 million urban passengers.

To visualize the engineering precision required for this operation, visitors to the MSC pavilion can interact with a precision-scaled structural model of the railcars alongside immersive digital walkthroughs detailing historical heavy-lift maneuvers.

In addition to its technical exhibition, MSC will provide strategic market analysis during the event’s official conference program. Axel van Pul, MSC’s Regional Head of Project Cargo for Europe and the Mediterranean, will represent the carrier on an international industry panel addressing structural shifts in global maritime logistics.

  • Date & Time: Tuesday, 16 June 2026 | 12:50 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

The executive session will analyze the balance between global vessel supply and industrial freight demand, offering supply chain managers insights into long-term freight rate stability, vessel availability, and the impact of macro-economic resets on breakbulk shipping lines.

The carrier will also host the annual MSC Breakbulk Europe networking forum on the evening of Wednesday, 17 June 2026, providing a structured environment for cargo owners, freight forwarders, and port authorities to discuss regional infrastructure development.
