Thoresen Shipping, the dry bulk arm of Thoresen Thai Agencies (TTA), has officially integrated the newly delivered Ultramax bulk carrier Juniper Point into its fleet under a one-year time charter agreement. The move strengthens a long-term partnership with Singapore-based Asiatic Lloyd Maritime and continues Thoresen’s strategy of refreshing its fleet with larger, more efficient tonnage.
The vessel, a 63,600-DWT newbuilding, was delivered at the Jiangsu Hantong shipyard in China on 10 February 2026, following a naming ceremony earlier that month.
Expanding the “Point” Series Collaboration
The charter of the Juniper Point follows the successful 2025 charter of its sister vessel, the Avery Point (63,500-DWT). This repeat business underscores the mutual confidence between Thoresen and Asiatic Lloyd Maritime.
Strategic Benefits:
- Fleet Modernization: The addition of a 2026-built vessel helps lower the average age of the fleet while increasing the proportion of Ultramax vessels versus traditional Supramaxes.
- Operational Flexibility: The 63,600-DWT capacity allows Thoresen to handle larger cargo volumes more efficiently across global trade lanes.
- Market Competitiveness: Newer vessels generally offer better fuel efficiency and compliance with the latest environmental regulations.
Consistent Global Outperformance
Thoresen Shipping enters 2026 following a period of significant operational excellence. The company remains a top performer in the global dry bulk sector, as evidenced by its recent industry rankings:
- Global Ranking: TTA Thoresen Shipping ranked 2nd globally among listed dry bulk companies in the 2024 performance survey by Lienguard & Roschmenn, Maritime Advisors.
- Sustained Excellence: It was the only company to maintain a Top 5 position for seven consecutive years (2018–2024).
- Financial Efficiency: In 2025, the company reported a Time Charter Equivalent (TCE) rate of US$13,315 per day, outperforming the market by 14%, while keeping Operating Expenses (OPEX) 15% below the industry average.
Outlook for 2026
With the Juniper Point now operational, Thoresen Shipping continues to maintain a disciplined mix of owned and chartered-in vessels. This balanced approach allows the company to stay agile in a volatile market while securing high-quality assets to serve its global customer base.
The delivery of this new Ultramax coincides with TTA’s broader strategy to diversify and stabilize earnings across its business segments, including Offshore Services and Agrochemicals, as the company prepares for its 2026 Annual General Meeting later this month.
