COSCO SHIPPING LILY 16000 TEU Methanol Series

The final vessel in COSCO SHIPPING Lines’ pioneering series of 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships was officially named and unveiled on the banks of the Yangtze River on March 6, 2026. The M.V. COSCO SHIPPING LILY marks the completion of a four-ship fleet renewal project that underscores the Group’s commitment to high-capacity, low-carbon maritime transport.

The delivery of the LILY follows her sister ships—the YANGPU, CARNATION, and PANAMA—all of which have demonstrated stable operational performance and established a strong “green reputation” on transpacific routes over the past year.

Engineering the Future: Technical Specifications

The COSCO SHIPPING LILY is a massive 366-meter vessel designed for maximum efficiency and minimal environmental impact. It integrates several “world-first” and domestic technological breakthroughs:

  • Propulsion Excellence: Equipped with the world’s first set of domestically produced WinGD methanol dual-fuel main engines, complemented by dual-fuel generators and boilers.
  • Optimized Design: The vessel features a unique “triangular layout” for its methanol fuel tanks, a configuration designed to maximize cargo space without compromising fuel capacity.
  • Dimensions & Capacity: With a molded breadth of 51 meters and a carrying capacity of 16,136 TEU, the ship is perfectly sized for major global trade corridors.

Leading the Green Transformation

The environmental metrics of this new series set a new benchmark for the container shipping industry, significantly exceeding international baselines.

  • Massive Emission Reductions: Compared to traditional fuel-powered ships, each vessel in this series reduces annual CO₂ emissions by approximately 120,000 tons.
  • EEDI Superiority: The Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for the LILY is more than 50% better than the industry baseline.
  • Intelligent Operations: An advanced central control system allows for the intelligent management of the entire operation process, optimizing fuel consumption in real-time.

Deployment on High-Growth Routes

The M.V. COSCO SHIPPING LILY is scheduled for immediate deployment on the South China–USWC e-commerce express service (SEA Line). This strategic placement addresses the growing demand for sustainable logistics solutions within the e-commerce sector, providing a direct, low-carbon link between Chinese manufacturing hubs and the U.S. West Coast.

The completion of this series injects significant momentum into COSCO SHIPPING’s broader mission to achieve a fully green fleet and supports the global industry’s transition toward net-zero targets.
