Global container line ZIM Integrated Shipping Services has announced the launch of the ZIM Falcon Service (ZFS), a standalone weekly loop linking major manufacturing hubs in Asia directly to primary trade gateways across the East Coast of South America and the River Plate region.
Operated exclusively by ZIM, the new service is scheduled to begin operations on September 13, 2026, with its maiden voyage departing from the Port of Shanghai. ZFS will complement ZIM’s growing Latin American trade portfolio, expanding direct ocean transport access across Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay.
Optimized Port Rotation and Express Transit Times
The ZFS rotation is structured to deliver competitive transit times for time-sensitive industrial freight originating in South China, alongside rapid turnaround times for South American agricultural exporters shipping to East Asia.
Port Rotation:
Shanghai – Ningbo – Hong Kong – Yantian – Rio de Janeiro – Santos – Paranaguá – Navegantes – Montevideo – Buenos Aires – Shanghai
Key Operational Advantages
- Outbound Speed: Connects Yantian to Rio de Janeiro in 24 days, and to Santos in 26 days.
- Inbound Agricultural Corridor: Delivers fast transit from the River Plate region back to the Far East, offering direct connections from Buenos Aires to Shanghai in 27 days and to Ningbo in 29 days.
- Expanded South American Coverage: Provides enhanced direct calls at Paranaguá and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, alongside direct service to Montevideo, Uruguay, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Cold-Chain and Specialized Cargo Infrastructure
To support South America’s major agricultural and perishables export market, ZFS deployments feature extensive refrigerated plug capacity supported by ZIM’s young reefer container fleet, ensuring cold-chain integrity for temperature-sensitive cargo.
Additionally, the dedicated vessel fleet is equipped to handle out-of-gauge (OOG) heavy machinery, Class 9 dangerous goods, and electric vehicle (EV) supply chain shipments.
Eran Epstein, Vice President of the Latin America Business Unit at ZIM, noted that the company is thrilled to launch the ZIM Falcon Service as part of its expanding portfolio of independent loops. He highlighted that the new service strengthens ZIM’s commercial footprint on the Asia–East Coast South America trade lane, enhancing the carrier’s ability to provide fast, reliable, and flexible ocean transport solutions to its customers.
ZIM confirmed that its existing ASE service will remain fully operational to serve shippers until the official rollout of the ZIM Falcon Service in September.
