Wan Hai Lines held a ship naming ceremony for its new 13,100 TEU containership, “WAN HAI A18,” accompanied by a charity event at the Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard. Ms. Yung-Chen Huang, President of Mega International Commercial Bank Co., Ltd., performed the christening rituals, bestowing blessings for good fortune and safe journeys.

The “WAN HAI A18” is the eleventh vessel in a series of thirteen 13,100 TEU containerships ordered by Wan Hai Lines from Samsung Heavy Industries since 2021. Expected to be delivered in early April, the vessel will join Wan Hai Lines’ Asia to West Coast of South America service, “ASA.”

Measuring 335 meters in length and 51 meters in breadth, this series of containerships features new engines and various eco-friendly and energy-saving designs. Notably, “WAN HAI A18” is the first in the series to be equipped with a windshield and a shaft generator. The windshield, a large structure installed at the bow, is designed to reduce frontal wind resistance and improve fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the shaft generator generates power via the ship’s main engine, contributing to fuel savings and the pursuit of green shipping goals, aligning with Wan Hai Lines’ commitment to environmental protection.

The successive delivery of Wan Hai Lines’ 13,100 TEU series vessels signifies the further expansion and upgrading of the company’s fleet. This not only enhances the company’s shipping capacity but also strengthens its market competitiveness, enabling it to provide customers with more comprehensive and high-quality services.

In addition to naming the new vessel, Wan Hai Lines also made a donation to a local charity organization, the Jangpyeong Child Care Center. This gesture aims to benefit the local community, underlining Wan Hai Lines’ motto, “We carry, we care,” and demonstrating the company’s commitment to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by providing quality service to customers and making positive contributions to society.
