PIL Kota Ebony Maiden Call Singapore

PIL’s third “E” Class vessel, Kota Ebony, made its inaugural call to Singapore on March 11 as part of its maiden voyage. To mark this significant milestone, the vessel was welcomed with a water salute by tugboats from PSA Marine.

A celebration was held on board the Kota Ebony, where the vessel’s godmother, Mrs. Giselle Kastrup, wife of PIL’s CEO Mr. Lars Kastrup, presented tokens of appreciation to the Master of the vessel, Captain Singh Jang Bahadur. Mrs. Kastrup is the godmother of the vessel, having named it “Kota Ebony” just three weeks ago when PIL took delivery of the vessel from Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai.

On board Kota Ebony, Lars Kastrup actively engaged the crew on their well-being. He also addressed the more than 40 PIL colleagues who were given the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art vessel to better understand how Kota Ebony’s advanced technology and green features will optimize operational efficiency, promote sustainability, and enhance PIL’s offerings.

Mr. Philbert Chua, PSA Singapore’s Managing Director, Container Division, was also on board the vessel to commemorate the occasion, presenting a special plaque to Captain Singh and Mr. Abhishek Chawla, PIL’s Chief Marine Officer.

The Kota Ebony is a 14,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel that features an optimized hull form and a high reefer capacity, which are ideal for the Latin American trade. It also has other features that help to reduce emissions, improve safety, and enhance operations efficiency. After Singapore, Kota Ebony will continue its journey to South America along the East Coast Service 1 (ES1) route, making stops in Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, before returning to Asia.
