Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has introduced the Afungi Shuttle, a dedicated coastal feeder service connecting Afungi, Mozambique, with regional port hubs in Nacala and Maputo.
The new maritime service is engineered to support expanding economic activity and infrastructure development in northern Mozambique, particularly the transport of project cargo for the regional liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
Dedicated Feeder Rotations and Freight Profile
The service establishes dedicated feeder loops to streamline the delivery of heavy equipment and essential development materials:
- Feeder Rotations: Operates via dedicated Nacala – Afungi – Nacala and Maputo – Afungi – Maputo routes.
- Target Cargo Profile: Facilitates the movement of construction materials, heavy machinery, industrial equipment, spare parts, and general project supplies.
- Global Network Integration and Streamlined Commercial Access
By integrating coastal feeder legs into MSC’s primary liner network, cargo moving to and from Afungi connects directly with main-line trade routes serving Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean, the Americas, the Middle East, and Southern Africa.
To reduce administrative complexity for project shippers, MSC provides end-to-end booking under a single commercial point of contact. Incorporating the coastal feeder leg directly into a single MSC booking simplifies overall cargo planning, shipment tracking, and logistics coordination into northern Mozambique.
