MSC Hamburg Partnership Yellow Festival LNG Vessel Launch

MSC marked its strengthened ties with the Port of Hamburg by hosting the MSC Yellow Festival on 14 June 2025, a large-scale public event that drew over 100,000 visitors. The festival combined street entertainment, interactive exhibits, and the official naming of the LNG dual-fuel vessel MSC GERMANY, capped by a fireworks and drone show over the Elbe River.

The event celebrated MSC’s recent partnership with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and highlighted the company’s long-standing connection to Hamburg, which dates back over 50 years to founder Gianluigi Aponte’s first ship purchase. The partnership with the city, including MSC’s investment in HHLA, is focused on modernising infrastructure, boosting freight volumes, and establishing a new German headquarters in HafenCity.

The MSC Yellow Festival, held along the Landungsbrücken and Jan-Fedder-Promenade, featured live music, street performers, flyboarding demonstrations, and international street food. Guests included Hamburg Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Senator Melanie Leonhard, and Senator Andreas Dressel, alongside MSC CEO Soren Toft and MSC Germany Managing Director Nils Kahn. The day was hosted by Radio Hamburg presenter Christian “Stübi” Stübinger.

An interactive MSC Harbours Experience provided visitors with an inside look at global shipping, including hands-on challenges and exhibits on sustainability and seafaring. Families were entertained with activities such as VR cargo loading, propeller-weight guessing games, and children’s play areas.

The evening concluded with the naming ceremony of the MSC GERMANY, officiated by Dr. Leonhard. The vessel, among the world’s most advanced LNG dual-fuel container ships, reflects MSC’s commitment to sustainable shipping. The launch was followed by a concert from Hamburg-born singer Zoe Wees, creating a memorable finale for the city’s residents and MSC stakeholders.
