A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has opened its flagship logistics centre in Shanghai’s Lin-gang area, marking one of the company’s largest global warehousing investments. Built with an investment of more than USD 140 million, the facility covers 113,000 square metres and provides 147,000 square metres of storage capacity.
The Lin-gang centre offers a full range of fulfilment services and is designed to support customers in China, the wider Asia-Pacific region and international markets. It forms part of Maersk’s integrated logistics network and is intended to enhance supply chain efficiency, flexibility and resilience.
Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk, said the development represented an important step in advancing the company’s integrated logistics strategy in China. He noted that the facility would reinforce omnichannel fulfilment capabilities and strengthen connections between China and global markets.
Representatives from the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, the Consulate General of Denmark in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission and other local authorities attended the opening ceremony alongside Maersk’s customers and executives.
A Stronger Integrated Logistics Network
Located approximately 40 kilometres from Shanghai Yangshan Port, one of Maersk’s key global shipping hubs, the centre benefits from the city’s well-established transportation infrastructure. It connects with Maersk’s ocean, air and inland services to provide integrated logistics solutions.
Solutions for International Omnichannel Fulfilment
The facility supports four core functions: export distribution, import distribution, regional and global hub operations, and cross-border e-commerce. Additional capabilities include temperature-controlled storage and customised logistics solutions.
With in-house customs expertise and Authorised Economic Operator certification, Maersk provides accelerated customs clearance and can handle bonded and non-bonded cargo within the same facility. Silvia Ding, Managing Director of Maersk Greater China, said the warehouse would help customers manage diversified trade demands and meet both B2B and B2C requirements through unified inventory management.
Future-Ready, Automated and Low-Emission Operations
The Lin-gang development includes four ramp warehouses and an automated intelligent warehouse equipped with storage and retrieval systems, stacker cranes, rail-guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots. These systems support real-time inventory control and data-driven operational planning.
Sustainability features include solar installations expected to supply more than 70 per cent of the facility’s electricity consumption, fully electric equipment, and rainwater harvesting and recycling systems. The centre has applied for LEED Gold certification for energy-efficient and environmentally responsible design.
