MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured an order from the Vertom group, a Netherlands-based shipowner and maritime service provider, to deliver fully electric cargo cranes for four multipurpose vessels. This order marks a significant milestone as it represents MacGregor’s first electric crane delivery for vessels being built in India, expanding sustainable solutions into emerging markets.
Advancing Sustainable Operations
The four vessels will be constructed at Chowgule Shipyard in India. This order was facilitated in close cooperation with VARYA Tech Pvt Ltd., MacGregor’s local sales partner. Deliveries of the cranes are scheduled to commence in 2026. Each vessel will be equipped with two SWL 80t – 18m fully electric cargo cranes. This order was officially booked in Q2 2025.
This collaboration highlights the shared commitment of MacGregor, the Vertom Group, and Chowgule Shipyard to advance sustainable operations. By integrating energy-efficient, electric cargo handling solutions into the fleet, the project aims to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency while significantly reducing environmental impact compared to traditional hydraulic systems.
