South Korean ocean carrier HMM has reinforced its leadership in sustainable management, securing top-tier sustainability ratings from major global ESG evaluation institutions EcoVadis and Sustainalytics.
In the 2026 EcoVadis assessment, HMM earned the prestigious Platinum medal for the third consecutive year—an honor reserved strictly for the top 1% of evaluated companies worldwide. The carrier achieved an overall score of 91 out of 100, up from 87 points the previous year. Alongside its historically strong performance in the environmental sector (scoring 95 points), HMM saw notable score improvements in corporate ethics, placing it in the top 1% across all evaluated categories.
Industry Leader in ESG Risk Management
In tandem with its EcoVadis achievement, HMM maintained its Low Risk status in the Sustainalytics ESG Risk Ratings, holding the number one ranking among global container shipping lines for three straight years.

HMM improved its overall risk score to 12.7 points (down from 13.6 points the previous year, where lower scores reflect lower operational and financial ESG risk). The carrier received top-tier ratings of “Negligible” or “Low Risk” across the majority of Sustainalytics’ seven evaluation categories, cementing its position as a preferred partner for global institutional investors with strict ESG mandates.
An HMM official stated that maintaining the highest ratings for three consecutive years across both major global ESG benchmarks represents a significant milestone. The representative added that HMM remains fully committed to solidifying sustainable management practices across every aspect of its global logistics operations.
