New Loop Makes CMA CGM the Only Carrier with Two Weekly Departures on the Trade

CMA CGM has officially launched its new KEA service, providing a dedicated and efficient link between the US East Coast and Oceania. The KEA service is designed to complement the carrier’s existing RTW PAD (Panama Direct) product, making CMA CGM the only shipping line to offer two distinct weekly sailings on this critical trade route.

The service officially commences in early February 2026, significantly enhancing the group’s capacity to move agricultural goods, consumer products, and industrial freight between North America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Expanded Port Coverage

The KEA service introduces a broader range of direct calls, ensuring full coverage across the US Atlantic seaboard and deep integration into the New Zealand and Australian markets:

  • Southbound Coverage: In addition to Philadelphia and Charleston, the service provides access to New York and Savannah, with a primary import call at Tauranga, New Zealand.
  • Northbound Coverage: Enhanced options for exporters include a new direct call at Port Chalmers (Dunedin) and a final discharge at Charleston.
  • Transshipment Opportunities: The service utilizes CMA CGM’s hubs in Cartagena and Manzanillo, allowing for seamless connections to the carrier’s global network, including the Mediterranean and North Europe.

The KEA Port Rotation is: Philadelphia – Charleston – Balboa – Tauranga – Sydney – Melbourne – Port Chalmers – Tauranga – Manzanillo – Cartagena – Philadelphia – Charleston

Inaugural Sailing and Strategic Slot Agreement

The service will be inaugurated by the m/v “SPIRIT OF MELBOURNE”, which is scheduled to reach Sydney on 3 February 2026 and Melbourne on 6 February 2026.

To maximize operational efficiency and frequency, CMA CGM is operating the KEA service through a space charter agreement with Maersk. This collaboration allows both carriers to maintain high vessel utilization while providing shippers with more dependable, fixed-day sailing options. By doubling its weekly frequency, CMA CGM is positioning itself as the market leader for temperature-controlled “reefer” cargo, particularly for fresh fruit and frozen food exports from New Zealand and Australia to the United States.
