CMA CGM, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and Hyundai Heavy Industries have collaborated to introduce a new generation of container ships with a unique design, the first of which is CMA CGM MERMAID. These ten new vessels, each capable of carrying 2,000 TEUs, are set to be deployed in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The ships have been designed to transport goods over short distances, facilitating the modal shift from road to sea.

The novel design of these container ships enhances their energy efficiency and environmental performance, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 20%, which is in line with CMA CGM’s decarbonization strategy. This makes them an eco-friendly option for businesses who want to reduce their carbon footprint.

The partnership between the three companies has yielded a vessel that is a game-changer in the container shipping industry. The new design is expected to set new standards for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, paving the way for a greener future. This move is a significant step towards mitigating shipping’s impact on the environment, and the industry is looking forward to seeing the benefits of this collaboration.
