CEVA Logistics "Mass Balance" Low-Carbon Road Transport Offer Europe

New FORPLANET Solution Decouples Fuel Consumption to Guarantee CO₂e Reduction Across the Continent

CEVA Logistics has introduced a new “Mass Balance” solution for road transport across Europe, significantly expanding its FORPLANET suite of sustainable logistics services. This offering allows customers to access verified greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions resulting from the use of low-carbon energy sources, even in regions where the supporting fuel infrastructure is not yet fully developed.

The new ground transport service is available for all CEVA-operated routes throughout Europe and provides a seamless, transparent, and independently verified process for allocating environmental benefits.

Overcoming Infrastructure Constraints

The Mass Balance principle is a recognized accounting model that allows CEVA to overcome operational constraints caused by the inconsistent availability of low-carbon energy sources across Europe. By decoupling the physical consumption of low-carbon energy from the allocation of its environmental benefits, the system ensures that customers can confidently meet their CO₂e reduction targets. This model is supported by a fully traceable and audited process.

Customers can select from three predetermined levels of greenhouse gas emission reduction compared to a B7 diesel benchmark:

  • -25% Reduction
  • -50% Reduction
  • -80% Reduction

Sandra Villeminot, Global Head of Sustainability for Ground and Rail, CEVA Logistics, emphasized the strategic importance: “By adding the ‘Mass Balance’ offer to our suite of FORPLANET solutions in Europe, we are expanding the possibilities for our customers to reduce their environmental footprint, ensuring that their supply chains contribute to their climate goals, while maintaining operational efficiency.”

Comprehensive Sustainable Portfolio

The Mass Balance offer complements CEVA’s existing CO₂ reduction initiatives within the Ground and Rail sector. These initiatives include:

  • A dedicated low-carbon fleet powered by biofuel or electric batteries.
  • Modal shifts to rail and barge transport.
  • Optimized multimodal solutions.

Sustainability is embedded across CEVA’s logistics solutions, providing customers with a range of options to reduce the environmental impact of their supply chains through low carbon transport and circular economy solutions.
