Maersk Columbia Sportswear Partnership UK Warehousing Distribution Agreement

Ocean and logistics provider A.P. Moller – Maersk has expanded its strategic partnership with Columbia Sportswear Company through a five-year contract to manage warehousing, fulfillment, and regional distribution for the UK and Ireland markets.

Under the agreement, Maersk will handle Columbia’s Pick & Pack operations out of its multi-customer logistics hub in Tamworth, near Birmingham, UK.

Facility Capabilities and Operational Scope

The localized fulfillment setup shifts Columbia’s distribution model for the UK and Ireland away from its existing facility in Cambrai, France, to reduce transit lead times and enhance regional supply chain responsiveness:

  • Dedicated Footprint: Encompasses approximately 8,000 square meters of dedicated operational space within Maersk’s Tamworth facility under a five-year agreement.
  • Volume and SKU Capacity: Designed to process an initial volume of approximately 1.6 million inbound and outbound units annually, managing an active inventory of roughly 25,000 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs).
  • Multi-Channel Support: Supports Columbia’s full product portfolio—including footwear, apparel, accessories, and outdoor equipment—across all commercial channels, including retail stores, wholesale distributors, and direct-to-consumer e-commerce.

Integrated Supply Chain Management

Beyond core fulfillment, Maersk will provide an end-to-end suite of logistics services within the UK market:

  • Customs and Transport Services: Provides integrated customs clearance handling, inland drayage, and cross-docking operations.
  • Final-Mile Distribution: Manages final-mile delivery network routing for retail and wholesale order streams across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Executive Perspectives

Matthieu Schegg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Columbia Sportswear EMEA, noted that establishing a UK-based fulfillment node enables Columbia to serve local consumers and retail partners faster while mitigating cross-border logistics friction.

Jason Walker, Chief Operating Officer for Maersk Contract Logistics, stated that shifting fulfillment closer to end consumer markets reinforces supply chain resilience, lowers delivery lead times, and supports Columbia’s regional market expansion.
