Kuehne+Nagel, a global leader in sea logistics, has officially inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art Container Freight Station (CFS) in Mumbai. The 3,500-square-metre, built-to-suit facility is strategically positioned to serve the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s largest container seaport, which handles over half of the nation’s containerised trade.
This expansion arrives as India moves toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with more than 70% of its international trade currently moving via maritime routes.
Strategic Proximity and Scalability
The new CFS acts as a critical “nerve center” for cargo consolidation and deconsolidation. Its location near JNPA ensures that shippers can bypass terminal congestion and benefit from faster turnaround times for both import and export flows.
Key Facility Features:
- Built-to-Suit Design: Engineered for maximum operational scalability, allowing Kuehne+Nagel to adapt to fluctuating trade volumes in the post-2025 economic landscape.
- Global Security Standards: The site is fully compliant with CTPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) and AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) certifications, ensuring a high-security environment for sensitive international cargo.
- Digital Integration: Real-time surveillance and end-to-end tracking systems provide customers with complete visibility of their goods during the transition between the port and the warehouse.
Sustainability-First Infrastructure
In line with Kuehne+Nagel’s global “Net Zero” commitments, the Mumbai CFS incorporates green logistics technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of the Indian supply chain:
- Electric Material-Handling: All forklifts and warehouse equipment are 100% electric, eliminating indoor emissions and reducing noise pollution.
- Solar-Powered Lighting: The facility utilizes a rooftop solar array to power its lighting systems, significantly lowering grid dependency.
- Green Design: ISO-standardized building materials and energy-efficient climate controls ensure the facility operates with minimal environmental impact.

Anish Kumar Jha, Managing Director for Kuehne+Nagel India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, emphasized that the CFS is designed for the “logistics needs of the future.” By providing a more connected and efficient maritime gateway, Kuehne+Nagel is enabling Thai and international exporters to tap into the growing Indian consumer market with greater reliability.
