In a groundbreaking move towards automation, DB Schenker has begun operating forklifts remotely at its Contract Logistics site in Kassel. This innovative approach allows drivers to control multiple vehicles from various locations using the enabl platform, enabling a more flexible response to demand fluctuations.
Lucas Mömken, Vice President of Global Engineering & Innovation in Contract Logistics at DB Schenker, noted the significance of this collaboration with enabl Technologies. He emphasized that the initiative not only automates processes but also enhances productivity, positioning DB Schenker competitively in the logistics industry. “We see this partnership as a valuable addition to our digitalization strategy, helping us secure our long-term competitiveness,” Mömken stated.
Julian Wadephul, CEO of enabled Technologies, says the remote driving solution has been operational for nine months. He expresses confidence that the product aligns well with customer needs and market trends, reinforcing the company’s ambition to become a global leader in warehouse automation. “Our safety concept has allowed us to operate without a support driver immediately, showcasing the effectiveness of our technology,” Wadephul said.
By separating the driver from the forklift, this remote-controlled driving system has the potential to boost efficiency and address staff shortages in the logistics sector. DB Schenker and the German tech startup enabl are committed to furthering this collaboration, having recently signed a Letter of Intent to expand the use of enabl’s advanced remote control and automation technology for forklifts across multiple international locations.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in the automation of logistics processes, setting a new standard for the industry.
