On the 26th of September, 2023, Mr. Anat Machima, Chief Operating Officer of Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT), was honored to be a keynote speaker at the World Maritime Day 2023 event hosted by the Marine Department. This event took place in Ballroom 3 of the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel in Bangkok.

During the event, Mr. Anat engaged in a discussion centered around the theme of “Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Maritime Transport.” He presented the company’s environmentally responsible port operation practices, which involve the utilization of modern container handling equipment at Terminal D. This includes remote-controlled ship-to-shore cranes, autonomous trucks, and electric-powered trucks. These innovations have led to a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions at Terminal D, up to 50 percent less compared to conventional container terminals.

It’s noteworthy that the 2023 World Maritime Day event coincided with the 50th anniversary of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) adoption of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). The event was aptly themed as “MARPOL at 50 – Our commitment goes on,” emphasizing the industry’s unwavering dedication to sustainable and environmentally friendly maritime transportation.
