Ocean carrier Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation held a naming ceremony on September 17 at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) shipyard in Ulsan for YM Weight, the fourth vessel in its five-ship series of 15,500 TEU-class LNG dual-fuel container ships.
The vessel is scheduled for deployment on Yang Ming’s MS2 service connecting primary East Asian load ports with key West Mediterranean gateways.
Vessel Dimensions and Alternative-Fuel Technology
Built by HD HHI, the neo-Panamax container vessel incorporates high-pressure dual-fuel propulsion and energy-efficiency systems:
- Technical Specifications: Features a length overall (LOA) of 364.97 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a total nominal capacity of approximately 15,600 TEU.
- Main Engine and Systems: Powered by high-pressure dual-fuel main engines operating on LNG or low-sulfur fuel oil (LSFO), supported by integrated satellite navigation telematics and automated equipment monitoring systems.
- Marine Life Mitigation Notations: Achieved underwater noise mitigation certifications, securing the Underwater Noise (UWN) notation from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) notation from the CR Classification Society (CR).
- IGF Code Seafarer Training: Supported by Yang Ming’s in-house seafarer training program, under which 148 ship officers have completed advanced IGF Code safety certification for handling low-flashpoint alternative fuels.
