MSC has been awarded the title of ‘Shipping Line of the Year’ for 2023-24 by the European Coffee Federation (ECF), recognizing its global commitment to excellence in the coffee shipping sector.

The ECF, a key representative of the European coffee trade, comprises 16 national associations and 42 members, representing over 700 companies that handle approximately 35% of the world’s coffee trade volume. The Federation selects its ‘Shipping Line of the Year’ based on a performance-based survey of its Logistics Committee.

Exceptional Service for Coffee Shippers

The award was presented to MSC representatives, including Senior Vice President Captain Giovanni Cuomo, Vice President Vakur Germiyanoglu, and Trade Manager Cristiano Junqueira, at a special event held at MSC’s Geneva headquarters. Dr. Krisztina Szalai, Secretary General of the Swiss Coffee Trade Association (SCTA), also attended the ceremony.

“MSC is honoured to be recognized as ‘Shipping Line of the Coffee Year’ by the ECF for the very first time,” said Cristiano Junqueira, Trade Manager. “It’s a real reflection of the hard work of MSC teams across the globe… We take pride in delivering exceptional shipping services to our trusted partners in this sector and are dedicated to upholding MSC’s high standards for our valued clients.”

MSC’s Role in the Global Coffee Trade

With over 500 billion cups of coffee consumed annually worldwide, MSC plays a crucial role in the global coffee trade. The company collaborates closely with exporters, brokers, and importers to ensure optimal care for coffee crops throughout their journey.

MSC’s success in the coffee industry is attributed to factors like tailor-made customer service from local experts, intermodal transport capabilities, dedicated warehouses, and fast, reliable transit times.

The ECF specifically recognized MSC for its service quality, schedule reliability, and container availability during the 2023-24 period. MSC’s extensive global network and modern vessel fleet allowed the company to maintain the flow of coffee shipments despite trade disruptions, such as those in the Suez Canal.

Innovative Solutions for Coffee Shipping

Looking ahead, MSC plans to further enhance its services for coffee shippers with the MSC Thermal Liner Solution, launched in 2024. This innovative solution protects sensitive cargo, such as coffee beans, from temperature, moisture, condensation, and contamination, ensuring their quality and integrity throughout the shipping process.
