Canada Express Service Strengthens Connectivity for Regional Spanish Exporters

MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has announced the expansion of its transatlantic network with the launch of the Canada Express Service. The new route is specifically designed to provide a direct and efficient shipping link from Northern Spain to Canada, catering to the growing trade demands of regional exporters.

The service aims to deliver competitive transit times while ensuring consistent availability of space and equipment for shippers. By providing direct calls at major ports in Northern Spain, MSC offers a strategic solution for businesses looking to expand their footprint in the Canadian market without the need for additional transshipments.

Port Rotation and Strategic Gateways

The Canada Express Service follows a fixed weekly rotation that connects key Mediterranean and North European hubs with major Canadian gateways:

Malaga – Sines – Vigo – Gijon – Bilbao – Felixstowe – Antwerp – Le Havre – Montreal – Halifax – Malaga – Sines

The inclusion of Vigo, Gijon, and Bilbao provides comprehensive coverage of the Spanish northern coast, while the calls at Montreal and Halifax ensure seamless access to the Canadian interior and East Coast. For exporters in Northern Spain, the service offers estimated transit times to Montreal of approximately 18 days from Bilbao and 22 days from Vigo.

Inaugural Sailing and Fleet Deployment

The service is scheduled to commence with the departure of the MSC YANG R (voyage CE551A) from the Port of Vigo on 22 December 2025. The MSC YANG R is a container vessel with a capacity of approximately 3,800 TEU, well-suited for the specialized requirements of the transatlantic trade lanes.

This new loop complements MSC’s existing portfolio of transatlantic services, which remains one of the largest in the global shipping industry. By integrating these new calls, MSC continues to optimize its network to provide more stable and reliable transportation solutions for diverse cargo types, ranging from industrial goods to consumer products.
