GEODIS and NAOS Group, the skincare specialist behind brands like Bioderma and Institut Esthederm, have announced the successful rollout of a new multimodal rail-road logistics solution. Operating since January 2026, the initiative marks a significant step in NAOS’s strategy to slash its carbon footprint by transitioning high-volume freight from the road to the French rail network.
The partnership, which began in 2022, has evolved from traditional freight forwarding into a deeply integrated “green supply chain” model that covers maritime transport, customs, and now, low-carbon land solutions.
The Dourges–Avignon “Green Corridor”
The centerpiece of this collaboration is a 900-kilometre multimodal link that connects NAOS’s production activities in the north of France to its primary distribution hub in the south.
The Logistics Flow:
- First Mile: Goods are collected by truck in Neuville-en-Ferrain and transported to the Dourges multimodal platform.
- The Long Haul: Containers are loaded onto dedicated trains for the journey south to Avignon.
- Last Mile: Final delivery is completed by truck to the NAOS logistics warehouse in Port Saint Louis.
By shifting approximately 300 full truckloads per year to this rail-road hybrid, NAOS is projected to reduce its CO2 emissions by 400 tons annually. To put this in perspective, that is the equivalent of a standard car circumnavigating the globe 46 times.
Security and Quality in the Cosmetics Sector
For the skincare and cosmetics industry, security and environmental control are as critical as speed. GEODIS has tailored the multimodal link to meet these stringent requirements:
- Secured Containers: Specialized units are used for the entire duration of the move to ensure product integrity and confidentiality.
- Dedicated Drivers: GEODIS assigns specific drivers for both the pickup and final delivery stages, ensuring high levels of operational control and a “white-glove” approach to sensitive cargo.
- Reliability: The rail schedule is synchronized with NAOS’s production cycles to maintain a consistent flow of inventory without the unpredictability of highway congestion.
A Global Decarbonization Roadmap
The French rail link is just one component of a broader strategic partnership. Since 2022, GEODIS has been centralizing NAOS’s global maritime transport and managing international warehousing to optimize the “logistics master plan” for its three core brands: Bioderma, Institut Esthederm, and Etat Pur.
Marc Vollet, Managing Director of the European Road Network at GEODIS, noted that the collaboration is built on “trust, innovation, and operational excellence.” Stéphanie de La Fournière, Global Transport Manager at NAOS Group, added that the partnership is essential for supporting the company’s ambitious growth while adhering to its environmental commitments.
