DHL Freight has officially inaugurated its new logistics terminal in Berlin-Marienfelde. The 5,200-square-meter facility, featuring 48 loading docks and cutting-edge infrastructure, replaces the previous Berlin terminal and sets a new standard for modern and sustainable logistics in the region.

“The new city terminal in Berlin not only expands our capacities but also reflects our commitment to more sustainable logistics,” said Dr. Thomas Vogel, CEO of DHL Freight DACH, UK & IE. “With modern technologies and optimized processes, we can contribute to making the transport of goods in the region not only more efficient but also more sustainable. This creates double value for our customers and our environment.”

Sustainable Operations and Technology

The terminal incorporates several sustainable features:

  • Alternative Drive Technologies: The vehicle fleet is being converted to alternative drives, including electric forklifts, natural gas-powered trucks, and battery-electric trucks for last-mile deliveries.
  • Energy Efficiency: A heat pump system, rainwater cistern, and energy-saving LED lighting contribute to the terminal’s energy efficiency.
  • Renewable Energy: Charging stations with electricity from renewable sources are available for cars and trucks, and the terminal is equipped with a photovoltaic system and wind turbines.

Strengthening the European Network

The new terminal strengthens DHL Freight’s European network and improves the efficiency and quality of services for customers in Berlin and the surrounding region. The facility also serves as a testing ground for innovative logistics solutions.

Project Background

The terminal was built on a former industrial site in just 14 months. It was developed and implemented by Operatio GmbH and Bremer Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH. This new facility, along with DHL Freight’s existing site in Wustermark, provides a strong foundation for logistics services in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
