Pilot Covers 1,383 Kilometers Round Trip on Only Two Battery Charges, Avoiding Estimated One Tonne of CO2 Emissions
CEVA Logistics, a leading global third-party logistics company, has completed a successful pilot test using a fully electric heavy-duty truck on the demanding Algeciras-Madrid route. The pilot demonstrates the viability of fully electric vehicles for long-haul routes traditionally dominated by combustion engines.
During the test, the Windrose Technology electric truck traveled a total of 1,383 kilometers round trip, completing the journey in 19 hours with only two rapid charges. The truck maintained a substantial weight of 31 tonnes and achieved a minimum range of 670 kilometers, with an average consumption of 1.26 kWh/km. Data analysis from the trial shows that the electric truck avoided approximately one tonne of CO2 emissions, underscoring the direct sustainability impact of this technology.
Accelerating Decarbonization in Europe
The success of the trial—which builds on a prior successful test conducted in China earlier in 2025—is considered a decisive step in validating electric vehicles for long-haul commercial transport. With this new milestone, CEVA continues to advance in the development of more efficient transport solutions, contributing to decarbonization and promoting sustainable mobility in Europe.
New pilot projects for electric trucks are expected to be launched in other European countries soon, including France, Benelux, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, CEVA plans to repeat the project in Spain, this time utilizing duo trailers following the General Vehicle Regulation amendment published by the Director General of Transport on 23 October 2025.
Sandra Villeminot, Global Head of Sustainability Ground & Rail, CEVA Logistics, called the pilot a “resounding success for CEVA and for the logistics sector as a whole.” She emphasized that the trial demonstrated the possibility of traveling long distances with fully electric vehicles, which was “unthinkable just a few years ago,” and affirmed CEVA’s commitment to accelerating the transition to a more sustainable and responsible model for the planet.
