APM Terminals and Hateco Group have signed an agreement with Da Nang City to develop, build and operate Lien Chieu Container Port, a new container terminal in central Vietnam.

The project includes an estimated investment of more than USD 1.7 billion and is expected to support an annual capacity of over 5.7 million TEUs once fully developed. Phase 1 will cover Berths 1 and 2, with later expansion planned for Berths 3 to 8.

Supporting Central Vietnam’s Trade Growth
The terminal is expected to begin operations in early 2029 and will be developed on shared infrastructure provided by Da Nang City. The project aligns with Vietnam’s National Strategy for Logistics Development and the country’s seaport development plan, which identifies Da Nang as one of Vietnam’s priority logistics centres.
Keith Svendsen, CEO of APM Terminals, said the project would support Da Nang’s development as a gateway for central Vietnam and strengthen trade connectivity with neighbouring markets, including Laos, Cambodia, eastern Thailand and Myanmar.
Building a Deep-Sea Logistics Gateway
At full capacity, the Lien Chieu Container Port complex is planned to include up to eight container berths, container yards, barge handling facilities and links to warehouses, rail infrastructure, industrial parks and the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.
The terminal is designed to accommodate vessels of up to 18,000 TEUs, positioning it as central Vietnam’s only deep-sea container terminal.

The project builds on the existing partnership between APM Terminals and Hateco Group, following the launch of the Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal in 2025.
