Nippon Express Holdings, Inc. (NX Group) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), an agency under India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), to develop specialized semiconductor logistics infrastructure across India.
The strategic partnership aims to build temperature- and vibration-controlled supply chain networks to support India’s “Semicon 2.0” industrial policy.
Logistics Infrastructure and Regional Investment Roadmap
The collaboration establishes a formal framework to address high-precision transport, cleanroom warehousing, and regional infrastructure challenges associated with semiconductor manufacturing and packaging:
- Dedicated Logistics Facilities: Encompasses plans by NX Group to construct and open a dedicated semiconductor logistics center in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat by 2027.
- Financial Growth Targets: Supports NX Group’s broader strategic vision in South Asia, aiming to increase annual revenue from its Indian logistics operations to ¥60 billion by fiscal year 2028.
- Technical Logistics Requirements: Focuses on specialized transport solutions for precision manufacturing equipment, silicon wafers, raw materials, and advanced IC packaging components requiring vibration mitigation and climate control.
Public-Private Supply Chain Strategy
The MOU aligns with the Indian government’s push to establish a domestic semiconductor ecosystem covering design, fab operations, assembly, testing, and packaging (ATMP):
- Operational Framework: Facilitates continuous information exchange between ISM and NX Group to optimize transport corridors, port-to-fab transit times, and specialized airport cargo facilities.
- Global Network Integration: Combines ISM’s regulatory and infrastructure planning oversight with NX Group’s international network and semiconductor supply chain expertise.
