DP World has expanded its coastal shipping operations in India with the acquisition of DP World Indus, a container vessel with a capacity of more than 2,500 TEUs dedicated to domestic coastal trade.
The vessel strengthens DP World’s Shipping Solutions business, supporting the movement of cargo between key Indian ports while contributing to more efficient and sustainable supply chains.
Strengthening Coastal Shipping Capacity
DP World Indus enhances the company’s coastal shipping network, which currently serves 14 ports across India with a dedicated fleet of 10 vessels.
According to DP World, its coastal shipping operations handled more than 473,000 TEUs during 2025.
The company said expanding coastal services provides customers with a reliable alternative to long-haul road transport, helping to improve cargo movement efficiency while reducing congestion and emissions.

Supporting Integrated Maritime Services
The vessel’s maiden call at the South Container Terminal, operated by DP World, marks another step in the company’s strategy to strengthen integration between its ports and marine services businesses.
By enhancing connectivity between India’s manufacturing, industrial and consumption centres, DP World Indus is expected to improve multimodal transport options and strengthen domestic supply chain resilience.
Supporting India’s Maritime Strategy
The investment aligns with DP World’s broader commitment to supporting India’s maritime and logistics sector through continued investment in ports, shipping services and supply chain infrastructure.
The company said the acquisition also supports the objectives outlined in its report, Enhancing India’s Ship Registry: Pathways to Global Competitiveness, which recommends measures to strengthen India’s maritime sector in line with the country’s Maritime Vision 2030.
DP World has also partnered with the Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited to support the development of sustainable coastal and short-sea shipping services across India.
