Direct Connection Links Major Chinese Gateways to Mombasa, Kenya
CULines has announced the launch of the Mombasa Far East Express (MFX), a new service designed to provide a direct and efficient shipping link between China and East Africa. Scheduled to take effect on 15 December 2025, the service addresses the rising demand for reliable transportation solutions along the China-Kenya trade corridor.
The MFX service provides direct coverage from several of China’s primary export hubs, ensuring competitive transit times and fixed schedules for shippers. Beyond direct calls in mainland China, the service is structured to integrate with CULines’ existing intra-Asia network, allowing cargo from Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia to connect to Mombasa via strategic transshipment hubs.
Optimized Port Rotation and Regional Connectivity
The MFX service follows a specialized rotation that balances direct port access with efficient transshipment options in Southeast Asia. The finalized port sequence is as follows:
Qingdao – Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Singapore – Port Klang – Mombasa – Qingdao
By including major hubs like Singapore and Port Klang, the service offers enhanced flexibility for regional cargo movements. This expansion represents a significant step in CULines’ strategy to bolster its service network in Africa, providing a stable and customer-focused alternative for the growing volume of containerized trade between the Far East and the Kenyan market.
Strategic Growth in the African Market
The introduction of the MFX loop follows a period of targeted network expansion for CULines. By deploying dedicated capacity to the East African coast, the carrier aims to improve supply chain reliability for businesses requiring consistent access to the port of Mombasa, which serves as a vital gateway for Kenya and neighboring landlocked nations.
This new service complements CULines’ broader portfolio of regional and long-haul offerings, reinforcing the company’s position as an agile player in the global container shipping industry.
