On September 16, Hapag-Lloyd India marked a significant achievement with the inaugural call at the newly launched Tuticorin International Container Terminal at V.O. Chidamabaranar Port. The event commenced with the berthing of the Hong Kong-flagged vessel, “Rio Grande Express.”
This historic moment coincides with the upcoming launch of the GEMINI Cooperation, which is set to provide the IEX service with its most substantial enhancement to date in vessel size and capacity. The IEX route is designed to connect essential South Indian ports—including Visakhapatnam, Kattupalli, and Cochin—with major global hubs like Colombo, Damietta, Piraeus, Rotterdam, London Gateway, Hamburg, Antwerp, and Le Havre.
Aligned with Hapag-Lloyd’s Strategy 2030, the company is confident that South and East India will play pivotal roles in its growth trajectory in the coming years. The inaugural call at Tuticorin, one of the region’s key ports, reinforces this commitment and sets a positive course for future achievements.
