COSCO SHIPPING provided emergency logistics support for the delivery of approximately 80 tonnes of Chinese humanitarian aid to Colombia following a major earthquake in the western part of the country.
The relief shipment comprised 2,460 items, including generators, water purification trucks, disinfection equipment, solar lighting systems, tents and blankets, with a total cargo volume of around 370 cubic metres.
Coordinating Emergency Logistics
The supplies were assembled in Beijing on 17 August, with COSCO SHIPPING supporting the domestic transport operation before the cargo departed from Beijing Capital International Airport in the early hours of 18 August.
Upon receiving the assignment, COSCO SHIPPING Lines (Colombia) activated its emergency response procedures and established a dedicated working group to coordinate customs clearance, container allocation and vehicle scheduling ahead of the shipment’s arrival.
Following an approximately 20-hour flight, the relief cargo arrived in Bogotá at noon on 18 August.
Accelerating Customs and Inland Transport
The local team completed customs clearance and transfer into the airport transit warehouse within three hours, before loading the supplies into eight containers within seven hours.
The cargo was then transported by road from Bogotá to Cali, covering approximately 460 kilometres and crossing the Andes Mountains.

Despite congestion and difficult road conditions following the earthquake, the transport fleet completed the journey in around 18 hours, with all relief supplies arriving safely in Cali on the evening of 19 August.
Supporting Emergency Response
The operation required close coordination across customs, vehicle deployment and route planning to ensure the aid reached the affected area as quickly as possible.
COSCO SHIPPING said it will continue to use its international logistics network to support humanitarian and emergency response operations while maintaining its role in global trade and supply chain connectivity.
