Siam Pattana Maritime Co., Ltd. (SPM), an affiliated entity of Siam ECL (SECL) and Eastern Car Liner (ECL) Japan, was recently awarded another contract by M.C.S Steel Public Company Limited to transport structural steel from Bangkok, Thailand, to Chiba and Yokohama, Japan, starting January – December 2023. The company expects to provide 14 sea freight shipments worth approximately THB 330M.

Mr. Thanit Hanbenjaphong, Director of SIAM PATTANA MARITIME (SPM) and General Manager of SIAM ECL (SECL)

Mr. Thanit Hanbenjaphong, Director of Siam Pattana Maritime and General Manager of Siam ECL, pointed out that currently, fuel costs and ocean freight charges have been decreasing significantly due to the relaxation of global concerns about Covid-19, the increased availability of vessels from providers, and the reduced importing demand from the US, Europe, and China. These factors have caused a decrease in the demand for bulk cargo, benefiting exporters by allowing them to reduce costs by up to 30 percent.

However, structural steel is a product of enormous size and high price, requiring careful handling and expertise. With 23 years of experience and a reputation for transparency in managing various well-known transportation projects, the partner company selected SPM and SECL to oversee this project. The company takes pride in being part of this year’s transportation project involving the construction of the largest skyscraper for the Tokiwabashi Project in Tokyo, Japan, which is scheduled to commence at the end of this year.

“Despite being a relatively small-sized company, SPM continuously adapts during changing times. We advise our customers on how they can fully leverage their shipping space. For example, with extensive experience in optimizing cargo allocation while ensuring safety standards, we reduced the number of required trips from 15 to 14 shipments to help our customers save costs significantly. The new contract for this year reflects our potential and professionalism in international project freight operations. Despite the difficult times in the sea freight industry, we remain fully committed to providing our partners with the best services at the best prices,” Mr. Thanit added.

SPM, an ocean carrier under Siam ECL, provides freight services using a fleet of Thai-flagged and Sub-Thai-flagged vessels. Its comprehensive service routes cover the main ports in Asia—including those in Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India—to serve Thailand’s private and public sectors. Currently, SPM plans to add one more vessel to its fleet to increase capacity.
