In recent years, demand for cold chain logistics services has been increasing in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries due to the diversification of dietary habits accompanying rapid economic growth and consumers’ growing awareness of food safety and security.

The Japanese Standards Association issued the standard for cold chain logistics services, JSA-S 1004: 2020 (JSA-S1004), in June 2020. The promotion of JSA-S1004 is expected to lead to the appropriate evaluation of Japanese-style high-quality cold chain logistics services and to establish high-quality and environmentally friendly cold chains in each country.

On July 28, 2022, TASCO YUSEN GOLD COLD SDN BHD (TYGC), a subsidiary of TASCO BERHAD, the Malaysian company of Yusen Logistics group, was certified as the first company in conformity with JSA-S 1004 requirement by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK).

On the same day, the Certificate Presentation of JSA-S1004:2020 Standard was held in Malaysia. Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Kuala Lumpur, Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Malaysian Investment Development Authority, logistics companies and food manufacturers of both countries participated in the ceremony. And Dr Yamaguchi, Corporate Officer, Director of Innovation Development Division of ClassNK, presented the certificate to Mr Lee Check Poh, TYGC Group Executive Chairman.

ClassNK, whose mission is to contribute to the safety of human life and property as well as environmental protection, will promote the JSA-S1004 and other cold chain logistics service certifications in Japan and ASEAN countries as part of its business that takes the environment and society into consideration to support the sustainable development of society as a whole.

As a supply chain logistics company with JSA-S1004, Yusen Logistics will further develop its food logistics business in Malaysia and other ASEAN countries, contribute to better living standards and continue to provide cold chain logistics services in line with the SDGs.
