As one of the largest ocean carriers in the world, HMM recognises the importance of corporate social responsibilities. The recent ‘We Carry the Dream’ campaign, organised by HMM Thailand, aims to make meaningful contributions to society and strengthen the company’s surrounding communities.

‘We Carry the Dream’ was made possible by the support of both the HMM Headquarters and HMM Thailand employees and management. As part of HMM’s worldwide campaign, the headquarters in Seoul provided HMM Thailand with a USD 10,000 budget—or THB 352,961—to organise social contribution activities locally.

Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) are at the heart of HMM’s global operations. As a leading ocean carrier, the company not only aims to manage its operational impacts but also takes concrete measures to strengthen its surrounding communities. “HMM is an international company with customers and stakeholders worldwide. Therefore, we would like to convey our appreciation and gratitude to local communities and contribute to creating a sustainable future. Coincidentally, the campaign coincided with HMM Thailand’s 25th anniversary, so we take advantage of this occasion to celebrate our milestone through meaningful contributions to our society together,” said Mr Nam-Hee Yuen, President & Managing Director, HMM.

‘We Carry the Dream’ campaign was held on August 18 -19, 2022. On the first day of the event, HMM Thailand visited the Klongtoey community and held a small ceremony at the Rong Moo Community Sports Ground. As a result, THB 128,154 worth of essential supplies, including 400 bags of rice, 400 food packs, face masks, and hand sanitisers, were handed out to Klongtoey community residents, in addition to THB 48,327 worth of monetary support given to the ‘Klongtoey-D-Jung Group’, a non-governmental organisation which supports youth via music, art, and sports activities. Additionally, THB 3,710 of HMM’s employees’ donations were used to buy ice cream for children to enjoy.

For the second day of the event, the HMM Thailand team went to the Orphanage Foundation of Thailand to donate financial support totalling THB 101,880 from HMM Headquarters and essential items worth THB 74,600, which included UHT milk, cooking oil, seasoning sauces, vermicelli, instant noodles, dishwashing liquid, and masks to support the foundation’s operation. HMM wishes to support children, especially orphans who lack family support and need extra help. In addition, HMM Thailand employees raised THB 6,000 to provide water and snacks for students in Metta Wittaya School, which is under the supervision of the foundation.

Apart from the Headquarter-funded activities, on August 22, the management and employees of HMM Thailand also donated a total of THB 18,939 to the Camillian Social Center in Rayong, a foundation which assists people living with HIV/AIDS, especially orphans and women, and supports youths that have HIV/AIDS to have better life quality.

“The ESG activities not only support local communities, but they also provide us with the opportunity to unify under a common cause to make the world a better place. Therefore, we will make an effort to organise more activities to support and strengthen communities in the future,” Mr Yuen concluded.
