Yusen Logistics European Headquarters Antwerp

Global logistics provider Yusen Logistics has officially opened its new European regional headquarters, Yusen Logistics Global Management (Europe) N.V. (YLGM-EUR), in Antwerp. The strategic move transfers the company’s regional administrative nerve center from Schiphol (Amsterdam) to the heart of Belgium’s primary maritime and industrial corridor.

Housing approximately 140 employees, the central office is structured to streamline decision-making across European markets, supporting the company’s long-term network growth and enhancing cross-border contract logistics operations.

Strategic Multimodal Connectivity in Central Europe

The selection of Antwerp positions Yusen Logistics at the intersection of Europe’s primary freight routes. The city provides direct access to extensive road transport networks, high-capacity rail lines, inland barge routes along the Scheldt and Rhine corridors, and deep-sea maritime shipping lanes anchored by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.

This multimodal infrastructure allows the regional headquarters to better oversee complex supply chain solutions, integrating ocean freight forwarding, air cargo management, and inland contract logistics under a unified management framework.

Unlocking Synergies Within the NYK Group Network

The strategic relocation also aligns Yusen Logistics closely with its parent company, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), and its sister operating companies. Several NYK Group entities maintain established operations within the Port of Antwerp, including bulk transport specialist NYK Bulkship (Atlantic) NV and roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) terminal operator International Car Operators N.V. (ICO).

By co-locating near these affiliated businesses, Yusen Logistics aims to achieve operational synergies:

  • Integrated Freight Services: Creating end-to-end transport loops that seamlessly connect ocean carrier space with landside storage and last-mile distribution.
  • Shared Infrastructure: Leveraging group-wide terminal assets and inland networks to optimize container turnaround times and reduce transit delays.
  • Unified Account Management: Offering multinational shippers consolidated logistics packages across breakbulk, automotive, containerized, and contract logistics sectors.

Executive Leadership Vision

The official opening ceremony brought together key corporate leadership, including Hiroki Harada, CEO of Yusen Logistics Global Management Co., Ltd. (YLGM), Carl-Johan Hagman, President and CEO of NYK Group Europe Ltd., Minoru Futonaka, Managing Director of YLGM-EUR, and Bruno Jacques, Deputy Managing Director of YLGM-EUR.

Hiroki Harada, CEO of YLGM, noted that establishing the European headquarters in Antwerp reflects strong confidence in the European market and reinforces Yusen Logistics’ commitment to building a connected, future-ready organization.

Minoru Futonaka, Managing Director of YLGM-EUR, added that the new headquarters creates a collaborative environment for teams to share operational expertise, strengthening the company’s regional network.

Bruno Jacques, Deputy Managing Director of YLGM-EUR, emphasized that Antwerp offers a unique mix of connectivity, logistics expertise, and international commercial opportunities, providing a strong platform to support ongoing growth across European supply chains.
