Triple i advances its ‘Logistics and Beyond’ strategy with three core concepts: Beyond Boundary, Beyond Existing Expertise, and Beyond Traditional Platform, which is driven by ESG principles to ensure long-term sustainability.

Triple i Logistics Public Company Limited (Triple i) is an integrated logistics service provider with over 25 years of experience and trust. The company is committed to continuously enhancing its operations by driving the ‘Logistics and Beyond’ strategy, fostering sustainable growth. This solidifies its position as a leading provider and marks its full transition into a regional logistics service provider.

LM spoke with Mr. Tip Dalal, CEO of Triple i, about the company’s approach to expanding its business base and strategies for creating sustainable growth. This includes enhancing service capabilities, managing risks, and developing and increasing business opportunities through partnerships. The company also focuses on implementing sustainable business practices in all its operations.

Breaking Barriers

Triple i focuses on achieving sustainable growth through its ‘Logistics and Beyond’ strategy, which consists of three key concepts: Beyond Boundary, Beyond Existing Expertise, and Beyond Traditional Platform. This strategy is implemented by developing an efficient business model integrating expertise across different areas. Crucially, the company fosters strategic partnerships to develop innovative logistics services that are potential and responsive to market demands. This approach aims to increase business expansion opportunities, manage risks, and strengthen the group of companies to elevate its position from a leading national service provider to a leading regional provider.

Mr. Tip Dalal

In terms of increasing opportunities for continuous and sustainable business growth, the company has expanded its logistics business in depth and breadth. This includes the development of innovations and technologies for excellent logistics management, such as providing logistics services that support e-commerce and cater to current and future lifestyle demands.

Regarding risk management, Mr. Tip explained, “Triple i manages risk by reducing reliance on any single core business or customer. The company is increasing new revenue streams outside of its domestic business in Thailand, reducing risks from fluctuating freight rates and capacity shortages and mitigating the impact of decreased shipping volumes in certain countries due to geopolitical conflicts.”

As part of its plan to strengthen its operations, Triple i aims to build an ecosystem that synergizes business capabilities within its core operations and between Triple i and its partners. This strategy is designed to enhance service capabilities, efficiently manage resource utilization, and elevate its competitive strengths.

Beyond Boundary

After building a strong foundation in logistics business and services in Thailand for over two decades, Triple i has expanded beyond national borders to become the region’s leading integrated logistics service provider. The company has extended its service territory to various Asian countries, aiming to increase its revenue sources from other regional markets.

Mr. Tip stated, “After successfully expanding our logistics-related services in Thailand, Triple i is committed to realizing its growth vision by transforming into a regional service provider. We began by forming a joint venture with DG Packaging (DGP) in Singapore, which provided us with new regional revenue sources.

We have also expanded our regional revenue and business by partnering with key allies, such as Asia Network International (ANI), a leading cargo general sales agent (Cargo GSA). ANI currently serves over 20 airlines across 10 countries and special administrative regions in East and Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, and China. This has immediately positioned Triple i as a fully-fledged regional logistics service provider.”

Moreover, in December 2023, ANI was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, becoming the first and only company in the Asian market to be publicly traded as an airline cargo space sales representative. Over 80 percent of ANI’s revenue comes from overseas services, clearly demonstrating its regional expansion.

Beyond Existing Expertise

Triple i continues to invest and expand its logistics services while leveraging its existing expertise by diversifying its network and business partnerships to meet the ever-changing market demands.

Mr. Tip explained, “Currently, Triple i’s logistics services are comprehensive across all business sectors, including air freight, sea freight, logistics, and hazardous and chemical logistics. We also offer services that cover all modes of transportation, including warehousing and distribution services, as well as handling cargo that require specialized knowledge, such as chemicals and hazardous goods.”

Although each company within the Triple i group has diverse areas of expertise, it continuously advances and expands its capabilities to create new business opportunities and services. Mr. Tip further explained, “Although Triple i already specializes in ground handling and warehouse management at Don Mueang Airport, we have also invested in SAL Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Then SAL has further expanded its business by establishing a joint venture with Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), leading to the formation of a new company named AOT Ground Aviation Services Co., Ltd. (AOTGA). This company provides ground services at airports, including passenger services, warehousing, ramp services, cleaning, and supporting airlines at six national airports. Additionally, it has opened a multimodal warehouse at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Therefore, this joint investment clearly demonstrates our ability to expand our business from our existing airport ground service expertise into new interconnected service models.”

The company has recently expanded its air cargo-related services by connecting Thailand’s three major airports—Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, and Phuket—through an Airport Truck Link service. In collaboration with AOTGA, this initiative enhances air cargo management capabilities by efficiently optimizing resource utilization.

In addition, Triple i provides air cargo transportation services across Asia, with Thailand as its central hub. The company consolidates goods, primarily e-commerce products from China and ASEAN countries, for distribution to destinations in Europe and the Americas (Air Cargo Transit). Moreover, Triple i has launched a pilot project in partnership with key stakeholders to shift cargo transport from conventional trucking to domestic rail transport, offering a more efficient and sustainable alternative.

“Beyond investing in new businesses, the Triple i group continues to build on its expertise in existing businesses to create new, related services. For example, we now offer logistics services for pharmaceuticals using Cold Chain systems, which require advanced specialized knowledge and expertise,” Mr. Tip added.

Beyond a Traditional Platform

It is undeniable that in recent years, there has been a significant shift in customer behaviour due to digital disruption, driven by the use of digital platforms and various applications developed by each service provider in the industry. Recognizing this industry trend, combined with a vision to develop new transportation and logistics services by incorporating technology into system management and service delivery, Triple i formed joint ventures with logistics partners that utilize digital platforms to enhance the company’s digital expertise. This includes forming joint ventures and partnerships with SABUY SPEED, Galaxy Ventures, and MAKESEND to provide logistics services through digital platforms, as well as developing new logistics-related services that better cater to evolving lifestyles.

Triple i has invested in the online platform MAKESEND, which operates a same-day delivery service for domestic cargo to meet customers’ needs requiring super express delivery. Subsequently, in 2023, MAKESEND invested in AIRPORTELS, a door-to-door baggage delivery service for travelers through an online platform, to support the expanding tourism business.

The company has also invested in SABUY SPEED, which operates a drop-off service for domestic parcel delivery. SABUY SPEED consolidates various brands under its management and works with leading domestic logistics providers for parcel delivery. Over time, SABUY SPEED has continuously expanded its service points to nearly 20,000 locations nationwide to meet the growing demand for parcel delivery, particularly in the e-commerce market.

Mr. Tip stated, “Investing in digital technologies related to logistics that align with lifestyle trends is a key part of the ‘Beyond Traditional Platform’ concept. However, our plan goes further, focusing on integrating operations across our businesses to achieve maximum efficiency, thereby supporting growth in both our core businesses (organic growth) and the ventures we invest in (inorganic growth). While our traditional core businesses have experienced strong growth, we are confident in Triple i’s potential to drive further growth by investing in new logistics-related ventures. Additionally, this approach effectively manages business risk.

For instance, when the logistics and freight industries faced significant disruptions during the pandemic, our core businesses were affected. However, thanks to our risk diversification strategy and the ‘Logistics and Beyond’ strategy, we had new revenue streams to support us. Over the past 2-3 years, we have consistently achieved record-high revenues, setting new benchmarks,” he added.

Creating Synergy

In addition to investing in overseas business expansion, developing new services that build upon existing expertise, and collaborating on digital platform services, Triple i has set its sights on becoming The Logistics Management Group. This strategic goal aims to integrate the strengths of its various business segments, ensuring efficient mutual support and synergy.

Mr. Tip elaborated, “We have always conducted business by partnering with others because we view everyone not as competitors but as partners who can grow together. Furthermore, collaborating with partners on new business ventures allows us to leverage their specialized expertise. For example, when investing in digital platforms, we acknowledge that this is not our core area of expertise. Therefore, we seek partners with in-depth knowledge in this field to work together while we provide robust logistics infrastructure to support them.

“This approach exemplifies a strategy where both parties can elevate their businesses to the next level together,” he concluded.

Sustainability in Focus

Beyond developing its business in various dimensions, Triple i places significant emphasis on fostering sustainability across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects. The company has established a dedicated task force to communicate and promote sustainability initiatives, ensuring employees at all levels understand and align with the organization’s  goals. In parallel, Triple i actively supports professional knowledge and skill development through training programs to enhance employee capabilities. This effort ultimately expands growth opportunities for staff while aligning with the company’s vision of passing on expertise in operations, services, and management. Notably, Triple i prioritizes nurturing the next generation of leaders to ensure the company’s sustainable and stable growth.

Triple i has undertaken various initiatives to minimize the environmental impact of its operations. These efforts recently earned the company the Commended Sustainability Awards 2024 at the SET Awards, organized by the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Moreover, in 2024, Triple i was recognized as a sustainable stock, achieving an AA rating in the SET ESG Ratings.

Additionally, HazChem, a subsidiary specializing in comprehensive hazardous and chemical logistics, received a Silver Medal from EcoVadis, a globally recognized sustainability rating provider.

Triple i actively collaborates with external organizations to share its expertise in environmental management. It has participated as a guest speaker for prominent environmental agencies such as Responsible Care, underscoring its commitment to advancing environmental knowledge and solutions within the industry.

Regarding social initiatives, the company has consistently carried out CSR activities. Additionally, it has collaborated with educational institutions offering logistics programs by sending experienced senior executives to serve as guest lecturers and sharing knowledge with students at various institutions. The company has also signed cooperation agreements to develop students into logistics professionals and to foster innovations that elevate the logistics industry. Furthermore, it has organized Open House events, providing faculty and logistics students opportunities to gain insights into warehouse management, including fulfillment warehouses and chemical warehouses. The company also leverages its logistics expertise to support social enterprises.

A Sustainable Future

Even though Triple i has successfully established itself as a leading provider of comprehensive logistics services in the region, the company affirms its commitment to pushing beyond its current achievements. There are still numerous challenges ahead, with a key focus on driving the business under the ‘Logistics and Beyond’ strategy. This includes the continuous integration of ESG principles, building limitless growth potential, staying ahead of changes, striving for sustainability, and contributing to enhancing the capabilities of Thailand’s logistics industry.
