Dual Milestones at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam Support Saudi Arabia’s Mission to Become a Global Logistics Hub
Saudi Global Ports Group (SGP) celebrated a landmark moment in Saudi Arabia’s logistics development with the official inauguration of the Terminal 2 Berth Expansion and the groundbreaking of the Dammam Integrated Logistics Zone at King Abdulaziz Port Dammam (KAPD). These dual milestones reinforce SGP’s mission to advance the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub, in direct alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
The event was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, and His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services. The ceremony was attended by senior representatives from key Saudi governmental authorities, including the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).
Dammam Integrated Logistics Zone: SAR 1.3 Billion Investment
The new Dammam Integrated Logistics Zone, managed by SGP Freezones, is adjacent to KAPD and spans 1 million square meters. Representing an investment of up to SAR 1.3 billion, this development is designed to significantly expand the Kingdom’s logistics capacity.
The zone will feature a comprehensive, eco-friendly, and integrated system, including:
- Modular warehousing and cold chain facilities
- Vehicle storage and re-export zones
- Light manufacturing areas
- Dedicated areas for petrochemical products and e-commerce storage
Crucially, the logistics zone will be directly linked to SGP Container Terminals, SGP Multipurpose Terminals, and SGP Intermodal (the Riyadh Dry Port Ecosystem), creating a fully integrated trade solution that seamlessly connects sea, land, and industrial logistics for both domestic and international customers.
Terminal 2 Expansion Boosts Maritime Capacity
The Terminal 2 expansion adds 225 meters to the existing 700 meters of quay length. This upgrade allows two mega container vessels to berth simultaneously, significantly improving operational capabilities and vessel turnaround times.
With this expansion, the consolidated handling capacity of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will rise to 3.8 million TEUs in 2025, cementing KAPD’s role as a key maritime gateway on the Arabian Gulf.
Eng. Abdullah Al Zamil, Chairman of the Board of Saudi Global Ports Company, stated that the expansion and the launch of SGP Freezones reflect SGP’s commitment to being future-ready and delivering world-class infrastructure. Rob Harrison, CEO of Saudi Global Ports Group, added that these events represent more than physical expansion; they reflect SGP’s commitment to creating a connected port ecosystem that will drive efficiency, capacity, and sustainable growth for years to come.
