Zuellig Pharma, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and modum.io.AG are the latest companies to join the Poseidon integrated pharmaceutical ocean freight network. More than 30 pharma companies and logistics providers now comprise the global Poseidon cold chain reform project.
Formed in 2018, the Poseidon network is a best-in-class community of progressive pharmaceutical companies and logistics providers that has come together with the collective goal of reforming the pharmaceutical logistics process which, in addition to a poor performance record, is facing mounting cost pressures, growing regulatory oversight, and increasing concerns about the sustainability of current practices.
“Poseidon is thrilled to welcome these three leading companies into the network”, said Torben Weilmuenster, Global Head of Supply Chain Management at Merz Pharma and Chairman of the Poseidon Steering Committee. “We believe that the Poseidon model has major implications for the transportation of sensitive, high-value pharmaceuticals and we are excited that we continue to attract some of the sector’s most prominent players into the Poseidon ecosystem.
As one of the leading healthcare services groups in Asia, Singapore-based Zuellig Pharma will be Poseidon’s principal distribution partner in the APAC region.
“We are excited to be joining this progressive community where we will be working in strategic partnership with like-minded organizations to deliver transformational change to pharmaceutical logistics,” said Zuellig’s Giuseppe Leo, SVP, North Asia & Singapore. ”The emergence of Poseidon is a clear signal that new collaborative business models are required for the industry to increase efficiency, improve safety, lower costs and deliver greater sustainability.”
Freight forwarding specialist Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will also be playing a prominent role in the Poseidon structure:
“As one of the world’s largest family-owned global logistics companies Hellmann is excited to join the Poseidon family and looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most respected companies and most talented individuals in the pharmaceutical logistics space,” said David Bang, Global VP Strategic Development at Hellmann. “We are looking forward to teaming up with the other members and being active contributors to this ground-breaking initiative.“
The Poseidon program is working on an innovative solution to the question of improving digital integration along the pharmaceutical cold-chain with Swiss company Modum coming on board to provide cutting-edge support in this crucial area.
“We see the Poseidon approach emerging as an impactful collaborative logistics model with tremendous potential to tackle the challenges long-range distribution of sensitive goods is currently facing” remarked Simon Doessegger, CEO of Modum. “Modum is excited to be a part of the Poseidon program contributing its expertise in the field of supply chain optimization through actionable visibility, effective digitalization of processes and blockchain-powered data integrity. We will be working with the Poseidon community to explore new digital logistics services built around accessibility, security, and efficiency.”
Alan Kennedy, Executive Director at Poseidon sums up the Poseidon opportunity: “To achieve the scale needed to drive real efficiency, promote standardization and stimulate innovation, pharmaceutical companies need to come out of their silos and collaborate, both together and with the logistics industry. The Poseidon model provides a vehicle for life sciences businesses to leverage their collective expertise and assets and build a new life-sciences distribution paradigm.”
