Pacific International Lines (PIL) celebrated the maiden call of its new “O”-Class vessel, the Kota Oasis, at the Port of Tema, Ghana on June 12. The 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessel is the first of its class and is operating on the company’s South West Africa Service (SWS) route.
To commemorate the occasion, PIL’s Ghana team hosted a celebration aboard the ship for over 40 guests, including customers and partners from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and terminal operator Meridian Port Services Ltd (MPS). Mr. Curtiss Dakpogan, COO of MPS, delivered a speech, thanking PIL for its commitment to Ghana and for its investment in sustainable shipping.
The Kota Oasis is designed to be a symbol of sustainability and innovation, reflecting PIL’s vision for a greener future. It is capable of running on both LNG and bio-methane fuels. The vessel is also equipped with Win-GD’s XDF engines, which feature iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) technology to significantly reduce methane emissions.
After its visit to Ghana, the Kota Oasis will continue on its route to Togo, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire before heading back to Asia, strengthening trade links between the continents.
