One sign of a successful human relationship is how long it lasts. The relationship between the EUROGATE Group and Konecranes goes back to 1970 when the Konecranes straddle carrier factory in Germany delivered EUROGATE’s first straddle carriers to the Port of Hamburg.

Since 1970, 530 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers have been delivered to the EUROGATE Group, which has grown steadily over the years to become indispensable to European container traffic. In addition, in 2022, many straddle carriers of the Konecranes Noell hybrid type NSC 644 EHY were delivered to EUROGATE’s German container terminals. This type stacks 1-over-3 with Konecranes Noell twin-lift spreaders NTS 62 F.

For EUROGATE, it was paramount to advance decarbonization in connection with efficiency goals. So the decision to go with the hybrid Konecranes Noell NSC 644 EHY machines was easy. With the new machines, emissions can be reduced by up to 30% or approximately 80 tons of CO2 per year compared to the CO2 emissions of the existing straddle carriers. Moreover, over the years, Konecranes has been very responsive to operational requirements from the EUROGATE Group, a recognized expert in straddle carrier operations.

The hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carrier NSC 644 EHY carries on the tradition of the diesel-electric straddle carrier with a downsized powertrain/genset. In addition, it uses a battery pack instead of brake resistors, giving an uncompromised performance compared to diesel-driven machines.

The relationship with EUROGATE Group is an excellent example of Ecolifting, Konecranes’ continuous work to decrease the carbon footprints of its customers. From eco-optimizing diesel drives to hybridization and fully electric fleets, Konecranes will continue to do more with less.

A strong focus on customers and a commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a lifting industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalization and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that decarbonize the economy and advance circularity and safety.
