Maersk has launched operations at a new logistics centre in Herleshausen, Germany, expanding its contract logistics footprint and creating a central hub for goods flows across Germany and neighbouring European markets.
The facility, located within Panattoni Park Bad Hersfeld Ost in the state of Hesse, offers approximately 71,800 square metres of logistics space and is leased by Maersk on a long-term basis.
Supporting Central European Distribution
The site includes 62,800 square metres of warehouse space, 2,900 square metres of offices and 6,100 square metres of mezzanine space.
Located directly alongside the A4 motorway, the facility benefits from access to one of Germany’s major east-west transport corridors and is positioned to support distribution across domestic and neighbouring European markets.
Inbound operations began in August, while outbound activities have now commenced, including distribution to German and other fulfilment centres for an online retailer.
Expanding Contract Logistics Capacity
Maersk said the new facility forms part of the continued expansion of its contract logistics business in Germany and supports the company’s broader integrated logistics strategy.
Around 150 employees are currently working at the site, with further recruitment underway. Once fully operational, the warehouse is expected to provide between 300 and 400 permanent jobs.
During the peak e-commerce season from October to December, employment at the site could increase to as many as 1,000 people.
Integrating Sustainability Features
The logistics centre is equipped with rooftop solar panels, a rainwater collection system and charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
The facility is also targeting DGNB Gold certification and includes dedicated employee well-being areas.
Through the new Herleshausen operation, Maersk aims to strengthen its warehousing and distribution capabilities in Germany while supporting growing demand for integrated contract logistics services across Europe.
