COSCO SHIPPING Holdings, through its subsidiary COSCO SHIPPING Lines, launched its upgraded A3X East Australia Weekly Service, with the maiden voyage departing from Qingdao.
The enhanced weekly loop increases direct sailing frequencies between North, East, and South China and major ports across East Australia, introducing an express link from Shekou to Melbourne.
Upgraded Port Rotation and Service Highlights
The A3X service operates on a fixed weekly schedule connecting primary container gateways across Northeast Asia and Australia:
Port Rotation: Qingdao – Shanghai – Shekou – Melbourne – Sydney – Qingdao
Key operational enhancements of the upgraded service loop include:
- Increased Sailing Frequencies: The addition brings East China’s direct shipping service frequency to four weekly sailings toward East Australia, alleviating seasonal capacity constraints for regional exporters.
- Market-Leading Express Transit Times: The direct Shekou-to-Melbourne leg achieves a 14-day transit time, creating a fast freight corridor for South China exporters.
- Regional Coverage Optimization: The A3X complements existing trade lane services, including the JKN Brisbane Express and the A3C/A3S Sydney Express loops, expanding port coverage across Australia’s eastern seaboard.
Key Transit Times
Southbound Transit Times (in days):
- From Qingdao: Melbourne (21 days), Sydney (24 days)

Localized Supply Chain Infrastructure in Australia
To complement its ocean transport services, COSCO SHIPPING Holdings is expanding its localized end-to-end logistics and intermodal network across Australia:
- Warehousing and Depot Assets: Operating self-managed and partnered depot and warehouse nodes in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to handle cargo devanning, consolidation, and storage.
- Multimodal Transport Infrastructure: Integrating rail trunk lines with highway drayage networks to connect Australian sea ports directly to inland terminals and logistics hubs.
- Last-Mile Distribution: Coordinating regional carrier networks to provide customized inland transportation from urban warehouses to final receiver destinations.
