Evergreen Marine Corporation, a global leader in container shipping, has placed its first-ever order for 6,000 Daikin ZeSTIA reefer units. This strategic investment is designed to significantly enhance Evergreen’s global cold chain network, meeting the surging international demand for fresh produce and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals.
The partnership marks a milestone for both companies, as Evergreen integrates Daikin’s flagship inverter-driven technology into its fleet of over 200 containerships.
Precision Cooling and Inverter Technology
The ZeSTIA unit, manufactured at Daikin’s state-of-the-art facility in Suzhou, China, is renowned for its DC inverter scroll compressor technology. Unlike traditional units that cycle on and off, the ZeSTIA’s inverter modulates motor speed to match the precise cooling demand.
Key Technical Advantages:
- Energy Efficiency: The inverter system provides unmatched energy savings, reducing both operational costs and the carbon footprint of the voyage.
- Precise Temperature Control: Minimizes temperature fluctuations, which is critical for preventing moisture loss or freezer damage in high-value perishables.
- Rapid Pull-Down: Enables the container to reach the target temperature faster than conventional models, ensuring cargo stability from the moment of loading.
Extending Shelf Life with Active CA
To further protect sensitive cargo, the ZeSTIA units are compatible with Daikin Active CA (Controlled Atmosphere). This advanced solution manages the container’s internal environment by actively reducing oxygen levels and controlling CO₂ concentrations. By “putting the produce to sleep,” this technology effectively slows down the ripening process, allowing Evergreen to transport fresh fruits and vegetables over longer distances while maintaining “just-picked” quality.
