The seafaring world welcomed a new blossom today with the launch of the “OOCL Iris,” a massive 16,828 TEU container vessel. This isn’t just any ship; it’s a testament to OOCL’s commitment to technological innovation and environmental sustainability.

The “Iris” is more than just a beautiful flower. It’s also a nod to OOCL’s pioneering IT system, which revolutionized their operations back in 1999. This system, constantly updated with cutting-edge technology, has allowed OOCL to weather storms and stay ahead of the curve.

This vessel is a marvel of engineering, boasting an intelligent platform for data management and an energy efficiency system that optimizes speed and fuel consumption in real time. It’s so advanced that it’s earned three “Smart Ship” notations and recognition for its eco-friendly design.

OOCL’s CEO, Weidong Tao, spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing how these new vessels are raising the bar for green shipping and supporting global trade. He reiterated OOCL’s dedication to customer satisfaction and building a sustainable future.

The “OOCL Iris” is setting off on its maiden voyage across the Pacific, connecting major ports like Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York, and Savannah on a 91-day journey. This is just the beginning of OOCL’s ambitious fleet expansion, with eight more impressive vessels on the horizon.
