Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) recently marked a significant milestone with the successful naming ceremony of its two latest vessels, USSAMA BHUM and VARANYA BHUM. The ceremony took place at the Hiroshima Shipyard in Japan on 27 August 2024. These new vessels, each capable of carrying 12,000 TEUs, were constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, showcasing RCL’s dedication to enhancing service quality and operational efficiency across global trade routes.
The USSAMA BHUM, meaning “Land of Genial,” and VARANYA BHUM, representing “Land of Brilliant,” were sponsored by Mrs. Nisarat Trairatvorakul and Mrs. Alia Sharaf, respectively. USSAMA BHUM has already embarked on its inaugural voyage, serving on RCL’s Middle East route (RCG), while VARANYA BHUM is scheduled for delivery in December 2024.
The naming ceremony was attended by distinguished figures, including Mr. Prasarn Trairatvorakul, Independent Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee at Siam Cement Group Co. Ltd., and Mr. Salah Sharaf, Vice President of Sharaf Group (Dubai), among others. Dr. Jamlong Atikul, Chairman of the Board of Directors of RCL, highlighted the strategic significance of the new vessels, emphasizing their role in strengthening RCL’s capabilities to meet the demands of its global clientele with efficiency and sustainability.
RCL’s ongoing fleet expansion and commitment to excellence in the maritime industry are evident through the addition of these vessels, reflecting the company’s strategic growth plans and dedication to providing top-tier shipping services across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
