Yusen Logistics New Rail Transport Service

Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of a new rail transport service from Hanoi, Vietnam, to Europe, utilizing freight trains between China and Vietnam. This move aims to enhance cross-border transport services connecting ASEAN countries and Europe.

The company’s new rail transport service utilizes freight trains linking China and Vietnam, with a focus on realizing stable mass transport to meet the rapidly growing transport demands. Shipments are first transported from Hanoi, Vietnam, to Chongqing, China, by China-Vietnam freight trains and then transferred to the China-Europe Railway Express, connecting China and Europe, for delivery across Europe.

Yusen Logistics provides comprehensive services, including cargo collection, vanning operation at its own CFS, import/export customs clearance, final mile delivery, and real-time shipment status updates. Notably, the company is the only Japanese freight forwarder with a large logistics centre by the terminal station in Duisburg, Germany, offering devanning operation, cross-docking, and delivery throughout Europe.

Using railways for cross-border transport is not only a business continuity planning (BCP) measure for supply chains but also allows optimising lead time and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With disruptions in ocean freight due to the Red Sea crisis, the company’s international rail transport option offers a lead time reduction of approximately 18 days compared to the Cape route while contributing to a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to ocean transport via the detour route.

Looking ahead, Yusen Logistics is set to expand its intermodal transport services with international railways in response to growing transport demand between Europe and ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. Additionally, the company is in the process of verifying an international rail transport service from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

As a key player committed to sustainable growth and as part of the NYK Group, which has made ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) a growth strategy, Yusen Logistics aims to further enhance its supply chain logistics services and promote initiatives aligned with a sustainable long-term perspective.
