With monthly calls to Arica port in Chile, Wallenius Wilhelmsen is committed to supporting customers in the South American market.

Within easy reach of Southern Peru’s mining hub, the Chilean port of Arica is strategically located for mining equipment shipments, making it a valuable addition to Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s service from North to South America. Less congested than other ports located further south, there are fewer delays at Arica port, meaning cargo moves quickly, which in turn helps to improve time to market.

“Arica port’s privileged position close to the Peruvian mining sector offers another important option to the South America market, opening up an alternative route for customers shipping products for this sector,” says Ana Paula Quaresma, VP Sales, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, South America.

Located close to the Bolivian border, Arica port reduces the inland distance to the key markets of La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba. It is well-positioned for those looking to expand their reach in the Bolivian market and beyond. The port’s on-site Bolivian customs office is an added benefit, helping to speed up further inland distribution along the border between Chile and Bolivia.

“An efficient customs clearance in the port is a great advantage and ensures trucks don’t waste time at the border,” says Quaresma.

In addition, the implementation of Short Tension Technology at the port means it’s less affected by heavy swells, which is one of the biggest challenges preventing our vessels from berthing in some Chilean ports.
