Yusen Logistics started to offer a Less-than-Container Load (LCL) consolidation ocean freight forwarding service with a reefer container for wine from Chile to Japan in October.

The new temperature-controlled transport service for wine consolidates natural, high-graded, and even a small amount of wines at the San Antonio Port warehouse in Chile. The wine is loaded into reefer containers and shipped directly to the port of Yokohama.

Just after the wine arrives, Yusen Logistics handles it in the temperature-controlled CFS at the port of Tokyo to maintain a constant temperature so that more varieties of Chilean wines can be shipped in good conditions in any season. In addition, direct transportation without transhipment at ports on the way prevents quality degradation due to cargo handling and temperature changes and reduces the risk of theft.

According to a survey conducted by the Embassy of Chile in Japan and ProChile, there is no consolidated ocean freight forwarding service for small batches of Chilean wines destined for Japan, and importers in Japan have faced the problem that even small shipments need to be transported by full container. Yusen Logistics will launch the temperature-controlled consolidation ocean freight forwarding service for wine to meet the growing transportation demands as a new solution.

Yusen Logistics established a subsidiary in Chile in 2021 to provide high-quality supply chain logistics services for transporting wines and agricultural and fishery products exported from Chile. Since Yusen Logistics has contributed to the development of trade between Chile and Japan for many years, it was the only Japanese logistics company to participate in the celebration to commemorate 125 years of diplomatic relations between Chile and Japan last November.
