In a significant move towards environmental protection, Wan Hai Lines has officially adopted biofuel for its global fleet. This decision aligns with the emission reduction targets the International Maritime Organization (IMO) set for 2030 and 2050, signalling a pivotal milestone in the company’s journey toward lowering carbon emissions.
The WAN HAI 510, also known as “Tai Chun,” a 4,333 TEU container ship, is the first vessel in the Wan Hai fleet to utilize biofuel. Currently operating on the CI6 route connecting the Far East and India, the ship successfully replenished its fuel with B24 biofuel in Singapore, supplied by KPI OceanConnect. This fuel blend consists of Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester biodiesel (UCOME) and Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), and it is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 20% compared to standard VLSFO.
“We recognize our responsibility to seek more environmentally friendly solutions,” said a spokesperson for Wan Hai Lines. “The adoption of biofuel is a crucial step in our journey towards carbon reduction and achieving our ESG energy-saving goals.”
This pioneering move underscores Wan Hai Lines’ commitment to sustainable development and proactive carbon emission reduction. The company plans to continue enhancing energy efficiency and expanding its use of low-carbon fuels, ensuring a positive impact on the environment for both current and future generations.
