Siam Pattana Maritime Co., Ltd. (SPM), an affiliated entity of Siam ECL and Eastern Car Liner (ECL), recently won another contract with M.C.S. Steel Public Company Limited. The agreement, worth approximately THB 225M, requires SPM to transport structural steel from Bangkok, Thailand, to Chiba and Yokohama, Japan, starting January 2024.

By the end of 2024, SPM expects to provide 9-10 sea freight shipments at a total transport value of around THB 225M.

Structural steel is a large, high-value cargo, thus requiring extensive handling experience and expertise. Due to SPM’s experience providing transparent transportation services for large projects for more than 24 years, M.S.C. Steel has entrusted the shipping company to handle their valuable cargo.

In 2024, SPM will handle structural steel shipment for many projects, such as TOKIWABASHI TORCH TOWER, TOKYO ARENA, SHINAGAWA 3, NIHONBASHI 1 CHOME, HAMAMATSU CHO, MINAMI AOYAMA, and YAESU in Japan. The shipments will begin in the early of 2024 and will continue until 2027.

Mr. Thanit Hanbenjaphong, Director of Siam Pattana Maritime and General Manager of Siam ECL

Mr. Thanit Hanbenjaphong, Director of Siam Pattana Maritime and General Manager of Siam ECL, said, “SPM plans another vessel to strengthen the business and the fleet of our parent company, Eastern Car Liner (ECL). Despite being a relatively small company, SPM continuously adapts to changing times. We advise our customers on how they can fully leverage their shipping space with extensive experience in optimizing cargo allocation while ensuring quality and safety standards. Furthermore, the new contract reflects our potential and professionalism in international project freight operations. Despite the difficult times in the sea freight industry, we remain fully committed to providing our partners with the best services at reasonable prices. We truly hope that SPM will continue being trusted by our customers for our freight operations in the future.”

Additionally, the geopolitical conflicts in the Red Sea region have affected oil prices. The exchange rate fluctuation will affect Thailand’s imports and lead to high freight rates in the future since transportation costs have already passed the lowest point. The insurance rate of cargo shipment will also likely increase in the future. However, SPM has put effort into understanding the situation and its customers’ pain points to decrease the freight price and balance it between the company’s and the customer’s benefits.

SPM, an ocean carrier under Siam ECL and Eastern Car Liner (ECL), provides freight services using a fleet of Thai-flagged and Sub-Thai-flagged vessels. Its comprehensive service routes cover the main ports in Asia—including those in Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India—to serve Thailand’s private and public sectors.
